Movie Movie
============================================================================
This movie has been highly praised as the leading candidate for
Movie of the Year! The press is all about this fast rising
politician and the struggle between his naive young sex
slave girlfriend and his power hungry wife.
The buzz is also about Kylie Ireland's fisting scenes and
the outstanding performance by Hillary Scott.
Movie of the Year, I can hardly wait.
Oops, at 35 seconds into the movie they show Eli Cross
in a very graphic opening of slitting his throat with a
knife with the blood gushing down. Gee, and only 4 hours
     and 5 minutes to go.
In my humble opinion the Movie of the Year requirements:

From Eli:

You aren't upsetting me at all, and you've caused no problems. Yes,
I did predict that you would absolutely hate the movie. That being said,
please understand that I think you are completely entitled to your opinion.

As I said to Roger Pipe, your review is your province. I hadn't written you
in response to your review (I actually read it some time ago) because I
have no desire to lobby a reviewer to try to change their mind
(I ran AVN for five years, so I had enough of that coming at me from the
other direction to last a lifetime), and I didn't want you to feel like I
was challenging your review.

However, I'll address your points since you feel strongly enough to write
me.

What you refer to as poor picture quality was a textual choice we made
either during shooting, or during post. We decided in pre-production we
wanted certain scenes to have a warmer feel, certain scenes to have a
cooler feel. In most of the sex scenes, there is footage shot at BC of a
second or 1/8 of a second shutter speed, and these moments used largely to
heighten the feel are often painted in different tones than the primary
scene in post. This is often used in 'real' movies to great effect;
Traffic leaps to mind, but there are literally hundreds I could name.

Believe my, Nic Danger, my Director of Photography, Is a DGA director in
his own right, and an ASC cinematographer; very little of what you see
during Corruption is by accident. You might not like it personally, but I
certainly disagree with describing it as poor.

As for the gun, we aren't making instructional videos and we certainly
aren't presenting these as role models. If life imitates art then art
imitates life; I think it is a very dangerous road headed towards total
draconian censorship to tell people they cannot include story elements
which might prove dangerous in the real world. Given this as a point of
contention, you must object to virtually all film and television. Also,
taken to its logical extreme, you should eschew all adult product which
doesn't use condoms as this might lead to unprotected sex in real life,
and by extension, greater spread of disease.

Obviously, this isn't your point of view, but I presume you take my
meaning.

I have read your lengthy opinions on choking, and I completely disagree.
Again, your personal preference is your own, and it isn't my place, or
anyone else's to tell you that you're wrong. However, when you make it
your personal quest you give an issue weight and meaning beyond the
merely physical, and in this philosophical context, I disagree.

I disagree for the reasons mentioned above, I disagree because, if you
would check the current statistics in the DSM-V, you would find that the
permanent harm or injury you fear from people attempting to emulate
choking simply doesn't happen (as opposed to accidental death due to
failed auto-erotic strangulation, which happens several times a year),
and I disagree because I have never, ever, in the entire course of my
directing career, asked for choking in a scene.

I have always been asked if we could include it, and always by the
female performer in question because she enjoys it. Even in a very dark,
extreme movie like Corruption, I want the performers to be comfortable
with what they're doing, and to enjoy it as much as possible. The women
who are choked in the movie wanted to be. It's that simple.

Rough sex. As mentioned above. I enjoy rough sex. It was appropriate to
the story. I hired performers who enjoy rough sex, and who knew what
kind of movie we were shooting. For scenes where it wasn't necessary,
e.g. Tyler & Alana, if they wanted a more vanilla scene, that's what we
shot.

As for the fisting, I remember Tampa Tushy Fest well, and I wrote AVN's
on the set of The Fist, The Whole Fist, etc. I'm not familiar with your
tape, but the thing you're forgetting about the two shows you've
mentioned is that they are both gonzo. In order to be found obscene, a
video must have no redeeming social importance, i.e. it must be artless.

Whether you like the story or no, the amount of obvious work that went
into the story and feature parts of the movie would make it a very
difficult prosecution.

SexZ's lawyer from Paul Cambria's office viewed the movie and felt
it was very unlikely to be targeted for prosecution, and was eminently
defensible if it were for precisely those reasons. However, for the very
few retailers who do not want the version with the fisting and gunplay,
we are making a slightly toned-down normal XXX cut available. Apart from
DVD Empire and Movie Gallery, there isn't much interest.

For the comments about the performances, I thank you.

In looking at your review, I also note the following points off

Proper ID This simply isn't appropriate for a feature.

Compelling opening sequence. Obviously, from your distress at the
throat-cutting you didn't find the opening to be compelling. I'm under
the impression many people feel much the opposite. Personally, it has
exactly the feel and effect that I wanted. It's a hook that keeps most
people watching, propels them into the story, and gives them a brief
warning as to the tone of the movie they're sitting down to watch.

No black and white footage. This strikes me as somewhat narrow-minded
to have this kind of blanket statement. Is there no room in your
criteria for artisitic decision, or is porn never art to your way of
thinking? At any rate, from a strictly technical note, there is no
black and white in the movie. There's footage that's been painted with
a bleach bypass process; there's dye sublimated process footage;
there's color wash and color neutral process footage; there's
de-saturated chroma, but at no point is there actual black and white.

Also, I believe the vast majority of these processes are only in the
story-driven sections, not in the sex.

So there it is. I think the fact is we come at this from very different
perspectives. I'm not saying mine is right, nor yours wrong. We just
differ. What were artistic choices to us appear as mistakes to you;
I felt obligated to make the movie faithfully, without sacrificing the
tone of the story.

I believe your perspective (please forgive me if my inference is
incorrect) is that the story should always be sublimated to the sex,
and the sex should always be of a certain tembre. That simply isn't my
way. From the overwhelming positive response I've gotten, I know a lot
of people feel the same way I do. You aren't one of them, and that's okay.
I can respect your opinion without sharing it.

So, thanks for taking the time to write. Believe me, there are no hard
feelings at all. I respect your desire to follow what you think is
right.

Feel free to write anytime.

Be well.

Bryn (Eli)

Sex Z Pictures Pledges Legal Support - 11/17/2006

Porn Valley- In a historically significant move, Sex Z Pictures is
putting their resources where their Corruption is with an
unprecedented offer that will reach to all fifty states, every
city, every village and ultimately every American.

We strongly stand behind every store, distributor or website that
sells our movie Corruption and we pledge that in the unlikely
event that there is ever any type of legal indictment on the
local, state or the federal level brought forth against any
company selling this movie, we will be there from the beginning
to the end providing the legal expertise of Paul Cambria and
the money required to defend any potential prosecution to those
companies who exercise their right to sell Corruption, stated
Sex Z Pictures owner Bo Kenney.

Kenney was responding to allegations that some stores or distributors
are resisting larger purchases of Corruption due to the harsh
political and sexual nature of the movie.

From the moment Corruption was released this past September, the
movie has been a lighting rod of discussion including amazing
reviews, news stories and some critical attacks.

A firestorm of media attention has blanketed the movie creating
measured amounts of apprehension for those interested in selling
this major adult movie of the year contender.

The story of Corruption was ripped directly from todays headlines
and it comments on the lives of some of our political leaders. You
only need to have watched CNN or Fox News over the past few years
to understand what has been going on with some of our political and
religious heads has provided an amazing amount of topics and
storyline ideas on which Corruption is based, Kenney remarks.

We didnt purposely go out and bring this attention onto ourselves.
It came from a number of sources including reviews and comments made
by those who have seen the picture and of course from the movie
     itself.

We wanted to make a movie that would be considered the top picture
of the year and Corruption has offered all that and more.

People should be able to sell a movie like Corruption to adults to
view in the privacy of their homes without any risk. To allay anyones
fear, we are standing behind every company selling the movie one
hundred percent by offering the expert legal guidance of Paul Cambria
and his team of First Amendment Attorneys in the very unlikely event
that a prosecution attempt is made, Kenney pledged.

Some might suggest that the very creation of Corruption was akin to
waving a flag and asking for attention but that is hardly the truth.
No one has fought more First Amendment battles than we have over the
years and I stand behind everything this country stands for and the
right to tell this story, Kenney proclaimed.

I believe Corruption would pass the Miller test. The Miller test was
developed in the 1973 case Miller v. California. It has three parts:
        * Whether the average person, applying contemporary community
standards, would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals
          to the prurient interest.
        * Whether the work depicts/describes, in a patently offensive way,
sexual conduct or excretory functions [1] specifically defined
by applicable state law; Whether the work, taken as a whole,
lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.
        * The third condition is also known as the SLAPS test. The work
is considered obscene only if all three conditions are satisfied.

With so much political scandal and intrigue on a daily basis in
Newspapers, Cable News shows and the Internet. It is mind blowing that
a movie could create so much controversy but Corruption has done what
no other adult movie has done in many years.

Its making Americans think about what our political leaders are doing
with the power we give them. Companies can feel better that Sex Z
Picture is standing behind their movies and their right to sell
intellectual stimulating movies with sex that adults can choose to
watch in the privacy of there homes.

Sex-Z Pictures is an all-American company and Corruption is one hell
     of a movie.

Corruption is available in a Directors cut, XXX and R version and has
received 17 nominations and AVN editors choice.
