Goodbye Den - 28 May 2011 (from Bobbi Starr)
An industry like adult can be equated to high school. Right now you're thinking of that
tired comparison of maturity and emotions and though you'd be right most of the time,
I'm taking an entirely different angle in this case.
People come. People go. People spend their entire adult lives in the industry. Sometimes
they're gone before you even knew they were there. You know how one day, you're sitting
around with your friends and wondering what happened to so-and-so? Adult is like that.
Den, the webmaster of Cyberspace Adult Video Reviews, or CAVR.com, has been a supporter
since I entered the business. I always liked him. He's the sort of reviewer who looked
for positive things to say and if there was anything negative, he didn't make a big deal
out of it. I've found he gave fair criticism and he never played favorites. As a critic,
you'd wouldn't always agree with what he said but it was always fair.
I was starting to wonder if anyone was watching my movies, or if they even cared, when
Den presented me with one of my first awards, CAVR's Starlet of the Year, in 2008.
I kept cool on the outside, but on the inside I was Sally Field accepting her Oscar -
"You like me! You really, really like me!" He came by the next year, with awards in tow
for Star of the Year and Siren of the Year.
Earlier this year, Den announced his retirement. His last blog put together his
All-Time Top 10 Porn Stars. Women who were on the scene far before my time are on the list
- Tricia Devereaux (who is now married to Evil Angel owner John Stagliano and that I now
call friend), Dee, Sylvia Saint and Jewel De'Nyle. There are also performers who are my
contemporaries, like Hillary Scott, Aurora Snow and Gianna Michaels.
But at the top of the list? Yours truly.
Thanks for the support all these years, Den. You will be missed and if you come out of
retirement it won't be soon enough.
