River Road
Anjanette Astoria is one of our favorite Cougars on the prowl
(to quote one of her Notorious movies), but when she's at home,
after dancing for generous one legged men at her club in
Sacramento, she's your ordinary Mom of 5, helping to support
a stay at home dad, and she is Anjanette Ingram, with her
husband and five kids that we see her in River Road.
While Anjanette's out dancing, her two youngest kids have taken
to playing with rocks that they've found at a creek near the
Sacramento River, and these rocks appear to have let curious
spirits into the house, quite unlike the spirits Anjanette hides
in the toilet tank in a plastic water bottle.
Both kinds of spirits are playing havoc with this family,
exploding in anger, turning off lights, making noises, and
generally scaring Mom and Dad (not to mention the kids) as well
as those brave enough to watch this most interesting of home
movies, written by Anjanette and her husband.
We do get to watch Anjanette let down her hair (actually take
off her wig), shower and work out on her pole, as what is a
garage without a pole anymore, but we also get to see her act
and interact with her family, hoping, perhaps, some day to
escape the world of clubs and join the sorority of independent
filmmakers.
Her youngest son and daughter steal the show, as Mom slowly
loses control, and Dad doesn't know what to make of rocks when
writing appears on them that answers all questions better than
any ouija board can.
I want to see what this family will come up with next, hoping
that there is, indeed, a next film.
