Cincinnati Equirer

05/22/2001 Day After ======================================================================= JURY: OBSCENITY LAW OBSCURE Metro Section This is my summary of the article: ....................................................................... * Jury of 6 men & 6 women acquitted Elyse Metcalf of three counts of pandering obscenity for selling the movies to undercover police. * Jurors thought the prosecution did not eliminate reasonable doubt under complex statelaw dealing with obscenity. * Jury foreman basically said the law was ambiguous. 'It left room for reasonable doubt'. * H. Louis Sirkin basically said that the politicans are not in touch with reality. * Mike Allen, Hamilton County Prosecutor said he was disappointed by Monday's verdict and concluded with, 'This is not going to discourage us.' * Jimmy Flynt said he was happy Ms Metcalf 'beat Hamiliton County's finest.' 'I am just glad she won.' * Elyse intends to continue her mission of liberating the 'sexual repressive climate' of Cincinnati. * Phil Burress, President of Citizens for Community Values, an anti-porn group, played down the impact of Monday's jury findings. 'There will be more cases.' ....................................................................... Please note that this is my reading of the newspaper article. This is not an attempt to steal any quotes or try to sway the writing. It is written by Marie McCain who I talked to at the trial. I am not trying to infringe upon her very fine article. ....................................................................... Additional comment. I would have liked to have read the Judge's comments that he made on WLW radio as I was driving home yesterday. His comments were very good and very profound and I would think that his thoughts and summary would be extremely important. ....................................................................... 05/23/2001 2 Days After Trial ======================================================================= No one word! ....................................................................... 05/24/2001 3 Days After Trial ======================================================================= EDITORIAL PAGE PORN Not Harmless Keep prosecuting Their editorial states that is was a 'wrong decision'. * Prosecutors should not ease up. * There will be wins and losses. * If adult gets a foothold, decent retailers flee and the district sinks in crime and decay. * Porn is implicated in pedophilia and a catalogue of other sex crimes. * Prosecutors should keep the heat on X-rated porn. .......................................................................
